Help us empower the next generation of makers, designers and artists to make the most of their talent.

Gifted makers with fantastic talent are graduating. While it is hard for makers at the best of times, this is a particularly tough time if you are coming out of college. Cockpit supports these makers AND we make a difference.

Please donate to support Cockpit to launch the careers of exciting new voices in craft who otherwise will not have this opportunity. Your donation will help us to remove the barriers to ensure young talented makers reach their potential. Help us launch the careers of the future stars of craft. Your gift makes this happen.  In challenging times, all donations make a difference, so we would be very grateful if you’d consider being part of the Cockpit community.

Cockpit Arts is London’s leading studios for contemporary crafts and the UK’s only business incubator for makers and designers. We are home to over 140 independent creative businesses at our sites in Deptford and Holborn. We provide exceptional makers and materials-based artists with the tools to succeed.

We have a track record supporting makers. Last year we supported studio holders to grow sustainable businesses in 24 craft disciplines. All studios are subsidised and 22% of makers are fully sponsored through Awards and Bursaries, funded by City of London Livery Companies, trusts and foundations, and individual and corporate sponsors.

Cockpit Arts delivers a range of Awards each year which are essential to support talented makers during the early stages of their craft careers. Awardees are unanimous in citing the benefit afforded by an Award to relieve them of financial pressure while they develop their craft skill and business.

Meron Wolde is a self-taught jeweller with a hunger to develop her craft skill and learn the route to a successful business. Cockpit was there to offer tailored and targeted support to help her develop into an exciting new voice in jewellery. She says “I cannot stress how important Cockpit’s support has been, allowing me access to a vast network of leading artist-makers and funding that has allowed me creative freedom.”

Darren Appiagyei is a wood turner with an original vision, he explains that support at the early stage of your career is so important: “Once you graduate you’re in the big bad world without the support system or freedom to create that you had in education, nor do you have the machinery or expert knowledge that you get from technicians.” Cockpit was there to offer the right support to help Darren pursue his passion.
