Cockpit Makes UK Top 100 Again
For the second year running Cockpit Arts has been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 social enterprises in the NatWest SE100 Index 2020.
Announced on 14th May, the SE100 Index & Social Business Awards is run by Pioneers Post & NatWest to name and celebrate the UK’s 100 most impressive social enterprises. Cockpit is in excellent company among some outstanding social enterprises across all parts of the economy. You can see the full list here selected through a rigorous process to assess the best performers of the year.
Ben Carpenter, CEO of Social Value UK @socialvalueuk which advises on the SE100, said: “It’s heartening to see that impact management is becoming a growing focus for the UK’s leading social enterprises, as revealed in the SE100 Index.”
Our CEO Annie Warburton commented, “We’re especially proud to be recognised for our impact and the positive difference we make to new talent. London’s independent craft businesses might be tiny, but with Cockpit’s support, they make a surprisingly hefty contribution to the capital’s creative industries, according to our 2020 Cockpit Effect Impact Report.”
Making Community: The Cockpit Effect 2020 reveals impressive resilience amongst Cockpit businesses in the face of increasing market pressures – but that was pre Covid-19 and our makers need us now more than ever.
In the first days of the emergency we acted decisively to support makers. We cut rents radically so they could plan. We’ve been going all out to enable makers to stay buoyant, from accessing Government support to reimagining future ways of working. As a social enterprise supporting talent to thrive, even in the toughest of times, is what we’re all about.
And Cockpit makers are turning their hands and talents to producing much-needed protective kit for local hospitals and healthcare trusts. Once again our makers are proving themselves to be resourceful, resilient and community-minded.
Despite the changes and challenges the current situation presents for both us and our makers this recognition is positive news and inspires us to do more.
Next week, the best of the best will be announced in this year’s annual NatWest SE100 Awards – and we are a finalist for Impact Champion Award to be announced next week.
