"Designing and making leather bags suits my nature. I can start in the morning with an idea and often by the end of the day have a finished product."

Originating in the crafts movement of the late 70’ and 80’s the work created was primarily directed to one off exhibition work using leather as a vehicle to create witty and innovative objects or products.
It then evolved to the experimentation of materials such as commercial flooring rubber, aluminium, wood fibre products, Formica, metal meshes, PVC, polypropylene, and acrylics.

Harkin spent several years developing and establishing his skills in Italy before moving to London where he was a Senior Lecturer of Leather Accessories at London College of Fashion for over half a decade.
The unique construction and use of materials employed by Steven allow him to create products that are as much about durability and function as innovation and beauty.
