Although I make some functional forms, I am only ever focussed on the beauty of the work. I think of my work as abstract sculptures thrown on the wheel.
Joe Garcia is a ceramicist based in London. He started out by learning to throw in his attic at home, using the same bag of clay for over a year. Throwing pots, then destroying them and reusing the clay until he felt confident on the wheel. He then attended a 3 month course at Forest Row School of Ceramics, before moving home again to set up his own studio for a year. Here he developed his style and began experimenting with photo transfers which are a key feature of his work. After this, he moved to London where he joined Cockpit Arts as a part of the Make It award.
