Tufting yarn with a pneumatic gun is a labour of love, a process best described as ‘drawing with wool’.
India is a textile designer and maker, carefully crafting intriguing surface designs. Currently her work focuses on the meticulous process of tufting yarn through a canvas screen. The method is physically demanding yet highly rewarding, and allows her playful exploration of colour and shape to collide with a piece’s tactile qualities.
The aesthetic composition of India’s work engages the viewer by making them question her pieces’ textural nature. Her aim is for the viewer’s sight to be inadequate in their experience of the piece, as they realise that to only see the pieces is not enough: you must know how it feels.
