The process of hand raising silver is reminiscent of the techniques used to beat out the bodywork on vintage cars - which are one of my enduring passions and inspirations.
Will brings his passion for craftsmanship to his range of contemporary functional objects and accessories. Working in hand formed silver the surface of each piece reveals the hammer used, this texture defines his work and give a beautiful tactile quality. Will believes that each item can be an enduring pleasure and part of everyday life, created to be functional, beautiful and enjoyed with clean lines and simple forms.
Will’s journey to becoming a silversmith began with a foundation at Portsmouth. His degree in metalwork and jewellery from Farnham developed into studying blacksmithing, including a sponsored semester in Southern Illinois funded by the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers. He was then able to explore an interest in smaller works in silver with help from two bursaries from the Goldsmiths’ Company.
