Teri Howes

Hand crochet fine jewellery in 18ct Gold & Silver with diamonds

Biography

Using age-old craft techniques such as knitting and crochet gives me enormous comfort in today’s high-tech world. Each tiny stitch is a rebellion against today’s world of instant everything.

The use of pure silver and 18ct gold wire as ‘thread’ enables Teri Howes to replicate the fluid movement of thread and fabric whilst incorporating the precious metals and opulence of conventional jewellery.

Inspiration comes mostly from Teri's mothers’ sewing tin – full of buttons, thread, lace trimmings and ribbons – they speak to her of potential, of what they might become.

Teri originally trained as a Graphic Designer, achieving a First Class BA (Hons) Degree in 1988 from Bath Academy of Art. After moving to London she worked in many leading design consultancies designing for household names.

Following a jewellery workshop evening class in 2000 she went on to study Jewellery Design at Kensington & Chelsea College which went on to become her second career. In 2006 Teri established her studio at Cockpit Arts.
