I focus on the woven structure, light and the interplay between the two: studying the visual transformation of the medium as light passes through the woven structure.
Rita's specialist material X-Ray Series is her own unique construct. Rita has developed it as an answer to her concept question, during her training at Central St Martins, 'What if I X-rayed textiles'. Her interest in exposing what lies beneath the surface of textiles led her to reveal the entire warp structure, group of threads often hidden in textiles, and manipulate them to form patterns. Rita's translucent material pieces shimmer as crystal or ice when natural and artificial light travels through it.
Rita was commissioned by The Worshipful Company of Weavers and V&A straight after graduation; this piece is kept at the permanent collection of the V&A. Rita has won prestigious awards such as the Peter Collingwood Award 2015 and the Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon Prize 2016; the latter presenting her first solo exhibition this summer.
