Hand woven textiles for seating made from ghost netting

As an artist and concerned marine lover my biggest interest is to find a way to both spread awareness about the truth of what we are doing to our oceans and give these materials a new life.

Carmen is a textile designer specialising in woven fabrics for outdoor seating. Her process involves visiting different coastlines in the U.K. and Puerto Rico to collect stranded fishing gear which she then reuses within her designs.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Her work draws inspiration from her time spent living near the ocean. Her love for colour and texture influence every step of her creative process.

Carmen holds a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MA in Textile Design from the Chelsea College of Art and Design. She is a recipient of the 2016 Cockpit Arts/ Clothworkers' foundation award.
