I was drawn to fabric from a very young age. As a small child I watched my seamstress Grandma with fascination. Now my own work is a celebration of textures, patterns, colours and forms from nature.
Following a BA in Surface Decoration and Printed Textiles, Abigail has developed her own techniques and individual style for textile and paper sculpture. All Abigail’s work is inspired by nature and she is most widely known for her bird sculptures, which have been sold and exhibited across the globe and featured in magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle Decoration and Selvedge. She is proud to name Liberty and Paul Smith among the stockists of her work.
Abigail hunts out fabrics wherever she travels, bought new, discovered at second-hand shops, or passed on from other makers. She creates life from these flat pieces of cloth, working with their weave to mould shapes, fraying their edges to form feathered breasts, creating stiffened tail feathers from something that was limp. With the final placing of the eye, a new sculpture is brought to life.
